Fulton FryarBlue Mountain Lake, N.Y. – Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, is pleased to announce a new acquisition on view in its Life in the Adirondacks exhibition: a cramped, dilapidated shack, known as “The Closet”, that for two summers was home to a young, talented African-American tenor, Fulton Fryar. Through the combined efforts of Adirondack Architectural Heritage, the Seagle Music Colony, and Adirondack Experience, this historic artifact was saved from demolition and will enlighten thousands of museum visitors on the history of racial discrimination in the Adirondack Park.

Hyde Collection late night eventsGlens Falls, N.Y. —For the third year in a row, The Hyde Collection will stay open late Thursday evenings in August to present special programming in the Hyde Night Out series. 

This year's Hyde Night Out kicked off at last week's Art Battle, which challenged seven teams to create works of art from JUST Water recyclables. The series continues August 2 with Clue at The Hyde, a special mystery tour; August 9 with a lecture, Plein Air: Perception and Passion; and wraps up August 16 with Beyond the Practice, a yoga event.

Plattsburgh, N.Y. -- The public is invited to join the Clinton County Historical Association (CCHA) on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at the Peru Dock for another exciting opportunity to visit the historic Bluff Point Lighthouse on Valcour Island.  Round trip transportation will be provided for a fee of $25 each.  The fee will include a trail guide and George Clifford's book on Lake Champlain Lighthouses. Special Lighthouse T-Shirts will also be on sale that day.  The boat, that holds 5 people per trip, will begin shuttling at 9am with trips to the Lighthouse made every 20 minutes.

Adirondack Theatre FestivalGlens Falls, N.Y.  - The 24th season of the Adirondack Theatre Festival will feature the concert reading of the hilarious romantic comedy Calling All Kates. The show will open at the Charles R. Wood Theater, located at 207 Glen Street in downtown Glens Falls, and run July 22nd and 23rd.Performances will start at 7:30pm. Tupper Lake Tinman TriathlonTupper Lake, N.Y. -  On Saturday, June 23, the Tupper Lake Tinman Triathlon will commence for the 36th time. 

The most noticeable change since the first race is the number of competitors, people who are looking for a hardcore race with a small town feel in a beautiful setting. To date, 501 people have registered for this year's race, with plenty of time to sign up. The 2017 race drew 633 competitors, and the 2016 iteration saw 538, compared with 390 entrants in 2015, and 375 in 2014.

Ticonderoga, N.Y. – Benedict Arnold is returning to Fort Ticonderoga for Opening Weekend May 5-6 through the dramatic two-day reenactment of “America’s First Victory” and the first public display in decades of locks of his and first wife Margaret’s hair.

The Hyde Collection's twenty-seventh annual High School Juried ShowGlens Falls, N.Y. —On a panel of three jurors looking at several hundred works of art, there are bound to be a few disagreements. But The Hyde Collection's twenty-seventh annual High School Juried Show jury members easily agreed that this year's artwork was incredible.

"I was blown away by the talent of these kids," said juror Takeyce Walter, a painter and art educator. "I was expecting a lot of mediocre work, but I was actually surprised that there was a lot of work that I said, 'Wow, I would purchase that and hang it in my house.' "

The annual High School Juried Show is a well-known showcase of local high school students’ creativity and passion for art.

Plattsburgh, N.Y. – Please join the Clinton County Historical Association (CCHA) on May 7, 2018, at the CCHA Museum, at 6:30 pm for an exciting presentation with guest speaker Peter Sorrell.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will focus on relics that have been discovered in Clinton County between 1774 and 1815. Mr. Sorrell will share a Powerpoint presentation, relics and photos of relics he has discovered in Clinton County.
