Central Chapter of the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers Assn.Osceola, N.Y. – There will be a double celebration at the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame and Museum, 1121 Comins Road in Osceola, on Sunday, July 5th.  The Central Chapter of the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers Assn. will lead the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and also honor the memory of Jessie Gotham.

The afternoon will begin with a “Dish to Pass” picnic at 12:30 pm, celebrating the traditional July 4th holiday.  At 2:00 pm, the Central Chapter will begin their concert.  There will be an opportunity to jam during the Chapter’s break at 3:00, so do bring your instruments and/or your singing voice.

The Central Chapter meets at Trinity Episcopal Church in Camden on the 3rd Friday evening of the month. This year they have added a Wednesday afternoon jam at the Museum from 1-3 pm.  In addition to performing annually at the Fiddler’s Museum, they can be heard at such local sites as the Oswego County Fair and the Camden Village Park Gazebo.

Jessie Gotham, whose memory is being celebrated during the concert, was the long-time pianist for their group, as well as for many other performers. Jessie continued the enthusiasm of her cousins, Alice Clemens and Ray Cronk, 2 of the 3 founders of the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers Assn. While her skill as an accompanist was outstanding, her belief in the importance of the music was so great that she was able to organize outstanding musicians to perform at the concerts in the Camden Gazebo and at the Hall of Fame in Osceola. 

Bring a “Dish to Pass” if you are coming for the picnic, but otherwise the afternoon is free. The concert is free, as is the parking on the left side of the shared driveway.  The site, including the Museum and Hall of Fame, is handicap-accessible. The admission to the Museum is free and open during events and by appointment.

Smoking and drugs, as well as pets, are not allowed at the site.
