Immersive experience with sound practitioner Ben Brown invites participants to slow down, listen deeply, and experience the garden in a new way
Millbrook, NY — On Saturday, August 22, Innisfree Garden will welcome sound practitioner and visual artist Ben Brown for Sound Bath for Peace, an immersive, after-hours listening experience set within the nationally significant landscape in Millbrook.
From 5:30 to 6:30 PM, after the garden has closed to other visitors, participants will settle onto yoga mats, blankets, or folding chairs as Brown creates a layered soundscape using musical instruments along with the natural sounds and resonance of the surrounding landscape.
Unlike a concert, a sound bath asks very little of its audience beyond simply listening. Participants sit or lie comfortably while sustained tones, vibrations, and ambient sounds unfold around them, creating an opportunity to slow down, quiet the mind, heighten awareness, and experience both sound and place more deeply. No previous experience with meditation or yoga is necessary.
The gathering is held in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace and as part of Gardens for Peace, a continent-wide initiative launched by the North American Japanese Garden Association. The program has particular resonance at Innisfree, where landscape architect Lester Collins created a garden intended not only to be beautiful, but to foster contemplation, awareness, and connection across cultures.
