Brooklyn, N.Y. - CUL DE SAC, a New York City nonprofit, will open an outdoor sauna village at Domino Park in Williamsburg on Monday, November 9, running through the end of February. The four-month residency brings together sauna, live culture and neighborhood nightlife, built on the belief that wellness should be a right, not a luxury.

Over the past year, CUL DE SAC has tested the concept through pop-ups that turned NYC parks and plazas into open-air bathhouses. A successful Kickstarter campaign enabled the organization to make necessary capital investments and bolster staffing to support the Domino Park residency.

“In a city that never stops, accessible, communal places to gather, warm up, and connect are more necessary now than ever. We’re thrilled to partner with Domino Park, continuing our mission to make sauna part of NYC's public infrastructure” said Gabe Bender, founder of CUL DE SAC.

The Domino Park village includes two outdoor saunas and a snack and hydration bar. Winter programming ranges from poetry readings and movement sessions to sets from underground DJs.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

  • Free Sweat Mondays (4-9pm): Free and discounted sessions for local community groups, in partnership with neighborhood organizations such as Ali Forney Center and New Alternatives. Dates: November 16 and 23, December 7 and 21, with more winter dates to follow.

  • Tuesday-Thursday (4-9pm): Programming and affinity nights, with the lineup announced weekly.

  • Weekends (9am-9pm): “SWEAT: A block party at an open-air bathhouse on the East River,” with guided sauna sessions, local DJs, and food from a rotating cast of friends and chefs.
