Auburn, NY (May 11, 2026) – The Schweinfurth Art Center is accepting registrations for its four-week series of Summer Art Camp classes! The art center is offering eight weeklong sessions, in the morning and afternoon, for children aged 6 to 15.
Morning camp runs 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon camps run 1 to 4 p.m. All camps end with an art show reception featuring light refreshments. Cost for the camp is $135 for Schweinfurth members and $145 for nonmembers – except for clay camps. See below for that cost, which includes clay and all materials needed.
Here are the specifics:
Morning and afternoon sessions of Haudenosaunee Cornhusk Art Camp, taught by Bernadette Scott of the Seneca Nation. Both sessions are for children aged 6 to 10 and run July 13 to 17, 2026. Students will be learning the cultural importance of traditional and contemporary Haudenosaunee cornhusk art by making cornhusk dolls, flowers, braids, baskets, and trees.
Mix It Up with Mixed Media is a morning camp for 6- to 10-year-olds that meets July 20 to 24, 2026. Participants are invited to explore the wonders of experimentation! Students will learn and play with cutting, layering, glueing, painting, and drawing to make expressive art work. Projects will include a mix of cardboard, paper collage, and paintings layered with other mediums, including pastels, ink, and markers.
The afternoon camp during the week of July 20 to 24 is Jewelry Making 101, for students aged 11 to 15. This camp will introduce the tools, materials and skills needed to make personalized necklaces, bracelets, earrings, keychains and whatever else they come up with. Perfect for those wanting to express their own unique style!
The topic for the week of July 27 to 31 is clay for both age groups. The morning camp, Creative Clay Adventures, will focus on basic hand building techniques for students age 6 to 10. The afternoon camp, Teen Wheel Throwing and Hand Building, is for students 11 to 15 years old. Both sessions of clay camp cost $200 per student for Schweinfurth members and $210 for nonmembers.
The final week of art camp – Aug. 3 to 7 – includes two special camps that involve creating a Fiber Friend for younger children and a puppet for older students. Children 6 to 10 will meet mornings to explore fiber through creative play, thoughtful investigation, and experimentation to create their own original Fiber Friend and its habitat (Fiber Den) using introductory crafting techniques, tools and materials in Fiber Friends Workshop.
The Dusty & Dott Company, an award-winning CNY-based studio developing original theater and children’s media, will lead 11- to 15-year-olds in the afternoon Make Your Own Monster camp to design and build their original monster hand puppet using fabric, mixed materials, and techniques like paper mâché detailing and 3D-printed heads. The week will end with a student performance for family and friends.
All art camps will take place at the Schweinfurth Art Center, 205 Genesee St., Auburn, NY.
