Schweinfurth Arts WorkshopsAuburn, NY (Feb. 2, 2026) – Schweinfurth is announcing its complete 2026 schedule of Studio Schweinfurth workshops, intensive workshops covering a single technique that run between 2 and 5 days. This year’s workshops, which all meet at the art center in Auburn, NY, include advanced appliqué, basket weaving, felting flowers, textile printing, and more.

Advanced Appliqué with Christine Wickert: In this three-day advanced appliqué class, students will use either silk or cotton fabrics to make one of the blocks featured in Deborah Kemball’s pattern pack “Floral Abundance.” Attendees will make various insects, skinny stems, leaves, and petals and learn pattern transfer techniques, sequencing layered applique, and several embroidery stitches. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 27-29 and costs $440 for Schweinfurth members, $450 for nonmembers.

Upcycling Basket Weaving with Hanna Vogel: Using variations on traditional wire basketry, twining, and coiling with soft materials, students will learn multiple weaving techniques to make everything from small baskets to large scale installations. Particular attention will be paid to pattern and line quality in 3D work. No fiber or basketry experience is necessary. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6-10 and costs $650 for Schweinfurth members, $660 for nonmembers.

Spring 2026 Fiber Retreat: Fiber artists of all kinds are invited to join us for a weekend of creativity at our biannual retreat, with full access to our sewing and dye/wet studios. Lunch is included. Just bring yourself and your work! The retreat runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17-19 and costs $140 for Schweinfurth members, $150 for nonmembers.

Felting a Floral Arrangement with Mallory Zondag: Learn how to sculpt organic forms with wool during this two-day, wet felting intensive. Attendees will create flowers, leaves, stems, and stamens and learn how to connect all of these elements to form realistic floral forms. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2-3 and cost $320 for Schweinfurth members, $330 for nonmembers.

Textile Printing – Just Silkscreen with Pat Pauly: Attendees will work with fiber reactive dyes and silkscreens to print cloth using stencils, paper barriers, Tyvek shapes, dirty screens, clear screens, screening to monoprint, and everything in combination. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 29-31 and cost $450 for Schweinfurth members; $460 for nonmembers.

Skins and Skeletons with Mo Kelman: In this experimental workshop, students will learn lashing and chaotic weaving methods for building skeletal structures with rattan and bamboo, then build skins with rice papers, pigmented and unpigmented gut, and recycled netting. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12-16 and cost $650 for Schweinfurth members; $660 for nonmembers.

Inspirational Landscape Quilting with Sharon Bottle Souva: Participants in this workshop will break down their inspirational photo or picture to its basic design elements, then use fused appliqué and free motion quilting to realize their vision. Quilts are made in a collage method on a quilted background. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18-20 and costs $380 for Schweinfurth members, $390 for nonmembers.

At Patterns, Skins and Stitch: Three Days of Free-Motion Fun with Paula Kovarik: Want to escape from those ho-hum stitch patterns you always use? We’re going to spend three days stitching for fun. The end result? A beast to join a parade. Our focus will be on loosening up and finding our sense of humor. The workshop will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28-30 and costs $380 for Schweinfurth members, $390 for nonmembers.
