Energizing The FutureA New Permanent Exhibit Set To Open September 30

Binghamton, NY (September 24, 2026) – The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier and BAE Systems are excited to announce that the Grand Opening of the brand-new interactive exhibit, “Energizing the Future,” will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 with an official ribbon cutting at 10AM. Construction is underway to transform the space into an engaging, STEM-focused destination for children and families.

Replacing the museum's former "Take Flight" exhibit, "Energizing the Future" was developed in partnership with BAE Systems engineers to inspire young minds to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on, creative play.

Exhibit Highlights include:

  • Commercial Airplane Interior: Complete with real seating, overhead luggage compartments, a video screen, and vibrant wall graphics.
  • Interactive Giant Lite-Brite: A giant light board designed to spark creativity.
  • Upgraded Flight Stations: The fan-favorite helicopter and jet simulator are being remodeled and repainted, joined by a brand-new hands-on helicopter station and a junior Rigamajig creation station.
