2000-Square-Foot Lakefront Retreat Brings Boutique Resort Accommodations to the Western Catskills
Jeffersonville, N.Y. — The Resort at Jefferson Landing has debuted on the shores of Jefferson Lake, introducing a fresh alternative to the traditional upstate getaway. The five-bedroom property combines the privacy and intimacy of a lake house with the design, wellness and recreational offerings more often associated with a boutique resort. The result is a truly unique setting for any gathering, celebration or retreat.
After purchasing the home, owner Monica Hammond embarked on an intensive $400,000 renovation and redesign to transform the previous vacation rental into a much more ambitious vision. Recognizing that the expansive lake views, private waterfront access, multi-level decks and nearly floor-to-ceiling windows inspired a destination in its own right.
“I saw an opportunity to transform the property into something that felt much more like a private resort than simply a vacation rental,” said Hammond. “I wanted to create an elevated escape that felt intentionally designed but still warm, playful and connected to the landscape. My hope is that our guests are able to spend meaningful time together, truly relax, and leave feeling a little in awe of their surroundings.”
Accommodating up to 15 guests, the three-level, 2000-square-foot home feels immersed in its wooded surroundings yet sits just half a mile from the heart of Jeffersonville. The setting offers a rare balance of seclusion and accessibility, with private lake access and sweeping water views just minutes from the village’s range of cafés, restaurants and independent shops.
The lakefront setting is central to the experience. A stone staircase winds through the wooded grounds to a two-story lakeside deck and private lake access, inviting guests to swim, fish, kayak and paddle, or simply linger by the water over morning coffee.
Throughout the property, thoughtfully designed spaces balance wellness, recreation and gathering. Guests can move between a heated and chilled tank-style pool, cedar sauna, cold plunge and hot tub; retreat to a dedicated meditation and massage dome; or settle into the private movie theater, complete with nine reclining cinema style seats. A game room, fire pit, outdoor dining and barbecue areas, and multiple decks overlooking the lake offer additional places to take in the surrounding landscape.
Hammond’s vision brings a contemporary sensibility to the classic Catskills retreat, layering warm, natural tones and textures with modern furnishings, custom artwork and playful details. Oversized windows frame sweeping views of the lake and surrounding woodland from the main living space, which flows into an open-plan kitchen and dining area. Upstairs, the primary suite features a king bed, fireplace and private balcony, while additional bedrooms with queen beds and bunk configurations were designed to comfortably accommodate larger groups.
Beyond the property, guests can discover a quieter, less-traveled side of the Catskills. Nearby, Buck Brook Alpacas offers a distinctly local excursion, while the region’s celebrated trout fishing, hiking and Stone Arch Bridge Historical Park provide ample opportunities to get outdoors. Upward Brewing Company is also within easy reach for craft beer, food and live music.
Just half a mile from the property, Jeffersonville’s Main Street has emerged as a charming enclave of independent shops, cafés and local businesses, with a sensibility that feels equal parts Catskills and Brooklyn. Among Hammond’s favorites is Sullivan Sundries, an inventive neighborhood gathering place that brings a provisions shop, wine shop, café, sandwich counter and artisan boutique together under one roof.
The area’s cultural offerings extend to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, just seven miles away. Set on the grounds of the historic 1969 Woodstock festival, the cultural destination is home to the Museum at Bethel Woods and a robust calendar of concerts and programming, giving guests an easy way to pair a lakefront Catskills escape with the region’s enduring music and cultural legacy.
