MON, JULY 11 at The Pines@SPAC

Saratoga Springs, NY (June 16, 2022) – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces “A Choreographers’ Feast,” featuring an exquisite multi-course dining experience with culinary creations inspired by choreographers whose works will be performed as part of New York City Ballet’s 2022 season at SPAC.

Presented by the SPAC Action Council in association with CulinaryArts@SPAC and conceived by food scholar Meryl Rosofsky, the festive summer feast will be hosted by WAMC’s Joe Donahue with photos by legendary NYCB photographer Paul Kolnik, who will attend the evening, on Monday, July 11 at 7 p.m. in the new The Pines@SPAC facilities. The fundraiser will support New York City Ballet’s SPAC residency, which is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 through Saturday, July 16, 2022.

“Our ‘Choreographers’ Feast’ is a true celebration of creativity – both choreographic and culinary. Last year we paid tribute to Balanchine’s genius both on stage and in the kitchen. This year, we will honor all six choreographers on our season with dishes and recipes inspired by 20th Century icons George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Merce Cunningham and our contemporary choreographers Justin Peck, Jamar Roberts, and Pam Tanowitz,” says Elizabeth Sobol, President and CEO of Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

“Those who attended last year’s 'Midsummer Night’s Supper' may recall that Balanchine was an extraordinary cook, and his herb-laden 'Saratoga green sauce' will be back this year by popular demand. Also making an appearance will be lots of local wild mushrooms, a nod to both Balanchine’s fondness for foraging and Cunningham’s partner John Cage, who when he wasn’t composing pioneering music, taught courses in mycology at the New School,” says Meryl Rosofsky, who conceived and created the event and serves as Vice-Chair of the George Balanchine Foundation. “With a classic cocktail from Peck, a robust steak from Robbins, and a vegetarian dish inspired by Roberts rounding out the fare, all beautifully produced by the CulinaryArts@SPAC team, there’s something to please every palate.”

The multi-course feast will be prepared by Chef Kim Klopstock of The Lily and the Rose and will be accompanied by superb wines and inventive cocktails created for the occasion. “A Choreographers’ Feast” is presented in association with CulinaryArts@SPAC, which launched in the fall of 2020 and features educational classes, workshops, gourmet experiences and more to support local chefs, farmers, and the regional culinary community.

Tickets to attend are $325. Tables are available in reservations of six ($5,000); eight ($7,500) or ten ($10,000). Visit spac.org for more details or contact Heather Varney at hvarney@spac.org.
