Deerpark, NY (May 2023) — Upstate New York’s newest destination for outdoor and camping enthusiasts, Neversink River Resort, has begun welcoming guests – just in time for the summer season.
An hour and a half from New York City, Neversink River Resort is the brainchild of hospitality company Team Outsider and design agency Time Studio, who set about to create a relaxed and stylish campground that bridges the gap between rugged camping and high-end retreats. The resort promises the simple pleasures of traditional camping with modern comforts and hospitality-led amenities and activities.
Neversink River Resort is a secluded retreat set on 70 acres of natural beauty in the charming town of Deerpark, surrounded by untouched woodlands, lakes, and scenic waterfalls. Nestled along the pristine Neversink River, known as the birthplace of American dry fly fishing, the resort offers 150 tent sites, 125 RV sites, 14 cabins, and 3 yurts.
The campground, which was originally built in the 1970s, has undergone a thoughtful restoration, featuring gentle yet modern upgrades that honor the site’s natural environment and location’s original character. The team recognized the potential of the existing buildings, improving and putting stylish touches to the site’s main River Lodge, washrooms, cabins, yurts, landscaping, and more.
With accommodations spread across seven distinct villages, the resort is able to accommodate up to 300 guests, making it ideal for large groups, weddings, and corporate retreats. The Neversink team is available to provide off-site team retreats, team-building events, catering services and dedicated meeting spaces.
Josh Weissenstein and Jesse Baker, whose companies are leading the project, have a long-standing history of delivering high-quality design projects and operating successful campgrounds across the country. After meeting ten years ago while working on high-end hospitality projects in New York City and Miami, the two shared a strong pull to return to their roots in nature and create a more meaningful impact on the hospitality world.
“Our goal is to maintain the campground’s approachable and affordable nature for our longtime guests, while also introducing Neversink to those looking for a contemporary experience typically associated with a higher price range,” said Josh Weissenstein, co-founder of Team Outsider. "We believe that everyone deserves to enjoy extraordinary hospitality and good design, and that there is space in the market to offer that experience in a way that hasn't been considered previously.”
Neversink evokes the restorative properties of the river with natural materials and an eclectic, understated aesthetic featuring cool tones and vintage elements sourced from antique markets and local artists. The bright and airy cabins incorporate forgotten treasures and pieces of local history into the design – from vintage maps and fishing posters to antique ceramics and outdoor furniture from neighboring farms.
“Our approach was to lean into the character of what was already here,” said Jesse Baker, founder of Time Studio. “Neversink has been a labor of love that we hope blends seamlessly into its wild environment and honors the property's history and natural beauty,” he said.
The campground offers a wide range of amenities, including its 4,000-square-foot River Lodge for guests to gather or unwind, with a private meeting room for groups. Nearby is the café and general store, as well as a refreshed pool area, kids playground, fire pits, watercrafts, cruiser bikes, golf carts, lawn games and much more. Whether guests want to laze the day away tubing down the river, relax in the hammock village, take a fly fishing class, join a yoga class, or hike the nearby trails, there's something for every age and camping level at Neversink River Resort.
The campground borders the Neversink Preserve, a 500-acre protected nature preserve featuring several wooded hiking trails, diverse wildlife and excellent trout fishing.
Tent sites start at $40, cabins at $120, and yurts at $150. Neversink is open from April through October, with upgrades ongoing. The resort is available for camping groups, family reunions, and wedding parties, as well as corporate retreats.
