Governor Kathy Hochul today broke ground on the new Hispanic Heritage Cultural Institute at an event with Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York leadership, community stakeholders and elected officials in West Buffalo. The HHCI will feature a museum, 150-seat performing arts theater, event space, café, media center for radio or television broadcasts, learning center, and more. The three-story, 37,000-square-foot infill development on Niagara and Hudson streets will celebrate the region’s Hispanic arts and culture and serve as a central hub for the West Buffalo community.  The groundbreaking coincides with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month which goes from September 15 through October 15 and the 13th anniversary of the founding of the Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York.

RetroGameConSyracuse, N.Y. (September 13, 2023) – On Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th, RetroGameCon, Upstate NY’s Video Game Expo returns to The Oncenter in downtown Syracuse for its 10-year anniversary event. RetroGameCon, the largest video game event in New York State, will once again be bringing famous voice actors, content creators, musical guests, and legends of the video game industry to downtown Syracuse for the weekend. The convention also features over 100 different exhibitors, including video game vendors, local artists and crafters, and independent game developers.

The trail will now be known as Schenectady Sips – Craft Beverage Trail. The trail features six breweries including Back Barn Brewing Co., Druthers Brewing Co., Frog Alley Brewing Co., Great Flats Brewing, Seven Points Brewery and Wolf Hollow Brewing Co. New to the trail are the Schenectady Distilling Co., Murray’s Fools Distilling Co. and Helderberg Meadworks.

AAM C47 boarding the airplaneFarmingdale, NY (September 15, 2023) – American Airpower Museum proudly announces another Douglas C-47 “Skytrain” D-Day Living History Flight Experience on Saturday, October 7, 2023 (Oct. 8 rain date).  In a one-of-a-kind immersive educational program, AAM’s C-47 troop transport will conduct four flights where Living Historians show passengers what 101st and 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers experienced on their incredible 1,200-plane D-Day assault.  Noted World War II Living Historian Robert Scarabino, with help from his 101st Airborne Living Historians, will transport passengers back in time to that fateful day in history. …

Young at HeartHudson, NY – The Olana Partnership is bringing back its popular painting classes for older adults to Olana State Historic Site this Fall with two expert teaching artists – Wennie Huang and Shawn Dell Joyce. Dell Joyce will offer in-person “Sketch Your Landscape” classes and Huang will offer a virtual series titled “A Brush with the Past.” During each program, participants will be immersed in and inspired by Frederic Church’s 250-acre artist-designed landscape and paintings, and the views from Olana.

Saratoga Springs, NY (September 14, 2023) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces the fall programs in the screening series Whole Grain: Experiments in Film & Video. The variety of subjects explored across the season’s the three programs include the relationship between text and image (September 26), the work of Tibetan-American artist Tenzin Phuntsog (October 16), and the work of the late Harry Smith (November 16).

Oktoberfest_ FinalDekalb Market Hall and Sixpoint Brewery Shake It Up!

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The annual festival that celebrates Bavarian culture, food, and beer is coming to Downtown Brooklyn for an Oktoberfest Bash hosted by DeKalb Market Hall and Sixpoint Brewery.  Inspired by the annual German festival, the event will include authentic eats, games, and activities for all ages. Traditional music and throwback tunes from the Street Brass Band and Shag Horns will keep the party going and people dancing all day.  The Oktoberfest Bash is free and will take place on Saturday, September 23 from 12 pm – 10 pm downstairs at City Point, which is located at 445 Albee Square West in Downtown Brooklyn.

Wood Stage, the festival will feature five bands that explore roots, rock, bluegrass, jazz, reggae, and indie-folk music including Upstate, Los Sugar Kings, Soggy Po’ Boys, Amythyst Kiah, and The Clements Brothers. The “Caffe Lena @ SPAC” festival highlights a unique, ongoing collaboration between the arts center and the folk music venue.
