100 Years of Sound FilmEvents celebrate Auburn’s historical impact on the film industry

Auburn, NY – Cayuga Museum of History and Art and Case Research Laboratory, located in Auburn, NY, is hosting two December events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of sound film, which revolutionized mass media and the film industry. The first event is a film screening on Wed., Dec. 7 from local filmmaker, Terry Cuddy, of his conceptual documentary on the Case Research Laboratory’s contributions to the modern film world. The second is an anniversary celebration of 100 Years of Sound Film, taking place on Wed., Dec. 14.

NYS Parks Recreation Historic PreservationSundays in December, 1:00-3:00PM

Staatsburg, N.Y. (11/22/22) — Staatsburgh State Historic Site will host the Holiday Whodunit, a mystery for children, every Sunday afternoon this December. Children ages 6 to 11 and their family members can come anytime between the hours of 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to attend the program. The children become detectives and solve a mystery by interviewing costumed interpreters, who portray Gilded Age houseguests and servants.

Utica, N.Y. -- On December 3 at 2:00 p.m., the Oneida County History Center will host Jim Coulthart, a local amateur military aviation historian, who will share his research on Mohawk Airlines. This hour-long presentation covers the history of central New York’s regional airline, from the early years as Robinson Airline through to its demise in the early 1970s. This program is free and open to the public.

Saratoga Springs, NY (November 28, 2022) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College invites families to explore outer space with Family Saturday: Celestial Collages on Saturday, December 3, at 2 pm. Participants are invited to create mixed-media collages about outer space, inspired by Cullen Washington Jr.’s Jupiter Landing, featured in the exhibition Parallax: Framing the Cosmos.
