Brave Women FLXVirtual race celebrates brave women of the Finger Lakes

Auburn, N.Y. – Registration is now open for the Brave Women FLX Winter 100K virtual challenge, taking place remotely from Jan. 1 – Mar. 31, 2022. Participants from all over the country are challenged to walk, hike, run, snowshoe, snowboard, ski, skate, skip, shimmy, shuffle, stroll – or all of the above – as they tally up 100 kilometers while celebrating brave women past and present in the Finger Lakes. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that ground was broken on The Cambria Hotel Niagara Falls, part of a more than $18 million mixed-use development project. The seven-story, 120-room upscale hotel brand, which will be located on Rainbow Boulevard, will also include three new residential guest houses on Buffalo Avenue and is expected to open in spring of 2023. The Cambria Hotel Niagara Falls will be developed by Plati Niagara Inc., which also owns a Wingate by Wyndham in Niagara Falls.

The variety of hikes offered include seal walks, fire tower treks, lakefront trails, boardwalks, towpaths, walks along waterfalls, historic estates, military forts and more.

Olana Winter SolsticeHudson NY—The Olana Partnership and Olana State Historic Site will host the second annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 18 from 1-5pm. This free community event will feature a variety of programs for Olana guests to participate in as the sun sets on the shortest day of the year.

Starting at 1 PM, visitors can take an abbreviated self-guided tour of the Main House until 3:30 PM or immerse themselves in a listening experience from b e i n g - s o u n d. Artists Joro-Boro and Keena.Maya use their mobile tea house stage to incorporate a variety of sound sources to open listeners to the wonders and mysteries hidden in everyday life. For 30 minutes, registered participants will put on a set of headphones and sip tea while engaging with the ambiance of sounds and senses of Olana.

2021 Pine Bush Perspectives Exhibit OutsideAlbany, NY – The 2021 Pine Bush Perspectives juried photo exhibit is currently on display both inside the Albany Pine Bush Preserve’s Discovery Center located at 195 New Karner Road in Albany and the along the Discovery Center’s outdoor entrance path. “Previous Pine Bush Perspectives exhibits have been inside the Discovery Center, but due to limited hours and capacity we decided to also display the exhibit outside,” explained Jackie Citriniti, Lead Educator and show designer. “Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy it however they’d like,” she continued.

Be the Scientist allows museum visitors to learn about and explore the activities of a different scientist each month. From marine biology to computer programming and beyond, the last Saturday of the month is a time for local STEM practitioners, faculty, and museum visitors to come together and explore new careers and frontiers in science and technology in a manner that is fun and engaging, exposing students to all the possibilities for a rewarding career in science.
