Double rainbow all the way across the sky!Ithaca, NY - Friends of Stewart Park and the City of Ithaca are proud to announce that Stewart Park has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of May 5, 2023. This comes on the heels of the park’s placement on New York’s State Register earlier this spring. Listing on the State and National Registers recognizes the importance of the property to the history of our country and provides the park with added protections that preserve the integrity of park buildings, most of which were built in the late 1800s. The National Register listing also means the park will be eligible for state historic preservation matching grants.

Governor Kathy Hochul today welcomed golfers and visitors to the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, with the tournament starting Thursday, May 18th. The week-long event is expected to generate an estimated economic impact of $190 million in direct, indirect and induced spending, with more than 225,000 spectators expected to attend. This will bring a dramatic economic ripple effect, as visitors will eat and stay in the region, support local businesses and explore all that the Finger Lakes has to offer.

George Eastman Museum logoRochester, N.Y., May 11, 2023—The George Eastman Museum is holding a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 25 with actress and filmmaker Jodie Foster, who will receive the George Eastman Award later that evening. The George Eastman Award was established in 1955 as the first award to recognize the enduring artistic value of the oeuvre of a film actor, director, or cinematographer. At the press conference, Foster will make a short statement and take questions from the media. Dr. Bruce Barnes, Ron and Donna Fielding Director of the George Eastman Museum, will provide welcome and introductory remarks.

Rochester, N.Y. (May 12, 2023) – This morning at 10:00 a.m., organizers officially kicked off the 125th Annual Rochester Lilac Festival, which will run through Sunday, May 21, 2023. During the opening day ceremony, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Visit Rochester CEO Don Jeffries and Festival Producer Jeff Springut unveiled this year’s official poster and welcomed visitors to Highland Park for the 10-day event.

Bloomberg ConnectsTo Enrich Onsite and Offsite Experiences

Rochester, N.Y., May 10, 2023— The George Eastman Museum (GEM) and The Strong National Museum of Play have joined Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies, with a renowned national and international audience. The GEM and The Strong are the first cultural institutions in all of Western New York to work with Bloomberg Connects, which includes content from many of the most prestigious museums, botanical gardens, performance venues, and libraries in the nation, including some New York City favorites such as the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met), and Museum of Modern Art (MoMa).

Jodie FosterRochester, N.Y. (May 11, 2023) — The George Eastman Museum has announced that George Eastman Award recipient and two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster will introduce a special, public screening of The Silence of the Lambs (Jonathan Demme, 1991) at the Dryden Theatre on Wednesday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m., EST. Foster will be in Rochester to accept the George Eastman Award on Thursday, May 25, also at the Dryden Theatre, and has agreed to talk about the film on stage prior to the screening on May 24.
